It was April in central London with heavy snow outside, so what fun to find some shelter and warmth in a place housing all of my favourite things: nuts, chocolate and coffee! Aptly named after the Greek goddess of fruit, Carpo is a tiny chunk of Grecian goodness in the heart of Piccadilly.

Run by Zanis and his team, there is a real authenticity in the air and in all they do. Row upon row of dried colourful fruits line the walls, while wooden kegs house Greek nuts (some freshly roasted from the shop’s own oven, visible from the shop floor), and there are huge slabs of chocolate filled with nutty delights and new flavours.

The tactile, attractive shop also houses a cafe, which is just big enough to sit, take off your coat and sip your hot drink after a lengthy shop in town. I enjoyed a blob of dark chocolate filled with almonds and  – the healthy option – a bag of goji berries mixed with blueberries and cranberries. Munching away, it was as if I was in their sister store in Athens rather than the depths of a British blizzard.
